Indoor Bluetooth range is roughly ten metres and drops through walls, so this works within a room or an adjacent one — not across a city. It's a proximity finder, not GPS.

Indoor range is roughly ten metres and drops through walls, and the glasses need battery left — so it works within a room or the next one, not across town.
Does Nearby Lens detect hidden cameras or spy cameras?
No. Nearby Lens detects Bluetooth advertisements from known smart glasses. It cannot find concealed cameras, wired cameras, or anything that does not broadcast an identifiable Bluetooth signal — and it cannot tell you whether a camera is actually recording, only that a device known to have one is nearby.
Why did Nearby Lens flag a TV, printer or headphones as glasses?
Some Bluetooth manufacturer IDs are registered to a whole company rather than one product, so a TV, printer or pair of headphones can advertise under an ID that also appears on smart glasses. This is why Nearby Lens shows a confidence percentage instead of a yes-or-no verdict, and labels ambiguous matches as uncertain. Switching sensitivity to Strict raises the confidence and signal floor and removes most of these. Detection rules are tightened continuously over the air as collisions are identified.
Will Nearby Lens detect every pair of smart glasses?
No detection system is perfect. Nearby Lens covers the major brands that broadcast identifiable BLE signals. Glasses with Bluetooth switched off, glasses that aren't advertising, and models that aggressively randomise their identifiers can be missed. Coverage improves continuously through over-the-air rule updates, and the app tells you which rule version produced a result.
Does Nearby Lens keep scanning when the app is closed?
On Android, yes — scanning runs as a foreground service, survives Doze, and resumes automatically after a reboot if it was active before. On iOS and watchOS, background scanning follows Apple's system limits: it continues but the system controls how often the radio wakes, so alerts can arrive with a short delay compared with the app being open.
Does Nearby Lens drain my battery?
Scanning uses hardware-level BLE filters, which is the power-efficient path — comparable to keeping a fitness tracker connected. Actual impact varies by device, by how long you scan, and on Apple Watch by the model. If you only need it in specific places, the widget, complication and Control Center toggle let you start and stop a scan in one tap.
Does Nearby Lens need an internet connection?
No. Bluetooth scanning works entirely offline. The internet is used only to fetch updated detection rules; if it is unavailable, the last cached rules are used and scanning continues with no disruption.
